The St. Majewski Pencil Factory was established on 15 October 1889 on Złota Street in Warsaw. In 1894 it was relocated to Pruszków, to the buildings of the former iron foundry owned by Adolf Rothstein. As production expanded, the introduction of modern technologies by the founders combined with favourable economic situation helped the factory build a very strong reputation across Europe. In 1937, at the World Exhibition in Paris, the ”Polonia 340” technical pencils were awarded a gold medal.
During World War I, the factory buildings were severely damaged by German artillery shelling, which – as it was later discovered – was ordered by an officer allegedly connected with the competing Faber company. After the war, the factory was rebuilt and modernised, continuing production uninterrupted even during World War II. In 2014, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the St. Majewski Pencil Factory, production was moved to a new, modern facility on Kredkowa Street in Pruszków, while the former historic buildings were taken over by a new owner – EBB Nieruchomości.
